Landmarking for navigation of large models

چکیده
In this paper we present a general technique for real-time display of very large models. We combine methods for culling and level-ofdetail management with wire-frame representations, generated dynamically from a hierarchy of bounding volumes. Smoothly moving boundary planes ensure that changes of representation do not lead to distracting popping effects. Context-sensitive landmark objects are added to support navigation, with a minimal impact on display frame rates. The method uses four dynamically-managed, overlapping zones to control level of detail. Results from user evaluation experiments are presented to demonstrate that the technique is effective for very large models on a modestly priced PC. 1 Introdu tion

Self-Landmarking for Robotics Applications
This chapter discusses the use of self-landmarking with autonomous mobile robots. Of particular interest are outdoor applications where a group of robots can only rely on themselves for purposes of self-localization and camera calibration, e.g. planetary exploration missions. Recently we have proposed a method of active self-landmarking which takes full advantage of the technology that is expec...
متن کاملGPS/INS Integration for Vehicle Navigation based on INS Error Analysis in Kalman Filtering
The Global Positioning System (GPS) and an Inertial Navigation System (INS) are two basic navigation systems. Due to their complementary characters in many aspects, a GPS/INS integrated navigation system has been a hot research topic in the recent decade. The Micro Electrical Mechanical Sensors (MEMS) successfully solved the problems of price, size and weight with the traditional INS. Therefore...
متن کاملUnderstanding Interaction with Command Interfaces
Developing models for describing the influences of interfaces on user interaction is a continuing goal of human-computer interaction research. Such models are developed through development of understanding and insight using the scientific method of observation and evaluation. We present a classification framework as a foundation for developing these models specifically for command interfaces. !...
متن کاملAn Evaluation of Landmarking Variants
Landmarking is a novel technique for data characterization in metalearning. While conventional approaches typically describe a database with its statistical measurements and properties, landmarking proposes to enrich such a description with quick and easy-to-obtain performance measures of simple learning algorithms. In this paper, we will discuss two novel aspects of landmarking. First, we inve...
متن کاملPractical Evaluation of EKF1 and UKF2 Filters for Terrain Aided Navigation
This article would study batch and recursive methods that used in terrain navigation systems. Terrain navigation has a lot ofdisadvantages and so researchers have been studied on different method of aided navigation for many years. Therefore, more types of aided navigation systems were introduced with advantages and disadvantages in terms of practical and theoretical. One of the main ideas for ...
